EHV type 1 and 4 genomes are described to have 76 orfs coding for 77 genes due to splicing2. However, while our search has identified all orfs for EHV4, EHV1 sequence has shown only 75 orfs corresponding to those described coding for 76 genes (as the spliced orf has been identified). Orfs described as 51 has not been found for this genome. Furthermore, there are also some differences between the number of nucleotides, not only referring to our predictions but also between Telford at al. and Medline entry. In fact, major differences appear when comparing our predictions and Medline entry with Telford.

Apart from the already described orfs we have identified, other 6 orfs potentially coding for protein in EHV1 genome, 5 of them (see Table 4) using blast and aligning with Clustalw, so they show identity with other Herpes virus genomes, and 1 containing a conserved domain (see results). This one do not shows significant matches using blast with other genomes. For EHV4 genome we have identified 1 new orf potentially coding for protein (see Table 4).

From now the task to be done would be the biological search of this orfs, as if we found their cDNA in the virus we would be able to confirm our prediction. Furthermore, we could repeat the search for the orf including those ones with a number of aminoacids between 60 and 100, as well as the orfs not starting with Met.
